Mum and Dad decided to treat me to a new boat, I could not believe how lucky I was. I didn't want to let my amazing 3942 to go though!
Back to club racing and we managed to have an Oppie points race as there are new Oppie racers this year, I am so pleased to have other Oppies to race against :0) I hope we will continue to have more Oppies join in the racing as we have lots of new beginners this year at the club. I did well as I came 4th in the handicap race and 2nd in the Optimist Points race.
In the afternoon I went out on my fellow Oppie sailors Mirror, I crewed and it was brilliant, we came 3rd in our race which wasn't bad as it was our first ever race together!
Off to Warsash Sailing Club for an IOCA Optimist open. I had lunch on the water, well I was supposed to the safety boats forgot our lunch. I made lots of friends and turtled my oppi for the first time ever. I had to just sit next to my daggerboard so I did not get cold in the water as I did not know what to do in a turtle capsize. I ended up coming 12th out of 15.
Ready to win the race
Being towed out to the race course
Back at chipstead its summer camp and its also 35 degrees Celsius so lots of jumping in and capsizing deliberately and also some non sailing related things like building cardboard boats and racing them. I preferred the sailing but racing cardboard boats was also fun. I just can't believe that I came 2nd in the cardboard boat racing. I loved rolling tacks and the odd turtle deliberately :0)
Me and my instructor
Me deliberately capsizing
Me bailing after capsize drills
Me and my sister sailing her topper
Racing a cardboard boat
Off to the east now for the team east selections at Blackwater SC. It is going to be great!
So the results of the selections were drumroll please...
I got in to development squad.
Honestly at first I was a bit disappointed that I only got into development squad but then I realised in the grand scheme of things I am as good as I thought I was because development is essentially no national events done (Me) racing is essentially you have done national events and performance is essentially you are competing for GBR.
Off to my first team east event at Oulton Broad SC but there are no pictures unfortunately because the wind speed was too big so no sailing allowed.
Next event was supposed to be at Royal Corinthian Yacht Club but it got moved to Blackwater lake because of the wind again but still some valuable coaching time I did end up nosediving twice and capsizing three times but still it's all good fun.
Next up Royal Harwich and it was really fun even though some light winds for a change but it was so great because I got the hang of rigging my boat I couldn't lift the mast up though. We also got our team east coats.
Here are some pictures!
And now through the dartford tunnel to Draycote Water SC that was also pretty windy but still lots of fun and very chilly. So chilly in fact I had to buy hot hands. While I was there I bought a hat clip and new gloves because the hot hands didn't fit with hot hands. I did nosedive once though no capsizes.
Yet again Blackwater comes up and that was super fun we had lunch on the water and that made me feel like I was top of the class and we did a race with Racing and Performance. I did not do well in that race but I had fun!
And now comes the first ever national event in 2 days. A big achievement. The National Spring Championships. YAY!
The spring championships were LOADS of FUN (the number one rule of sailing) there were lots of boats as you can see, and we were pretty far out but not as far as I have been.
How cool is the fact that the person who repaired my boat after a crash was my safety cover at my first national event.
